As you know the Federation is working with members and stakeholders to explore the parameters and conditions for a secure, sustainable funding model for supported and sheltered housing - you can find out more about this process on our website.
Running alongside this, we are launching a public-facing campaign, Starts at Home and I’m writing to you today with further details and how you can get involved.
What is Starts at Home about?
The aim of Starts at Home is to help persuade the Government to ensure that every person who needs extra support has a home that meets their needs. It will tell positive stories of people who have gained independence, confidence and stability through supported housing. Using the powerful first-person stories of people who have benefited from supported housing, we want to create an alliance of organisations and cross-party politicians to back Starts at Home.
How can you get involved?
We’ll launch the campaign website soon with some initial case studies and supportive statements from politicians. In the next couple of weeks we are asking you to do three simple things to help Starts at Home gain momentum:
- Send us your case studies – we’ve created a template to help you gather the right information from your service users, but you can send us any existing case studies you have too.
- Write to your local MPs – we’ve put together guidance to help you do this.
- Promote Starts at Home on social media using #startsathome when the campaign launches – you can download campaign logos to add to your website and social media posts.
We will be in touch again with more information about when the campaign is launching and our plans for it, but we hope you will take the Starts at Home concept and use it creatively in ways that work in your area. To make it as easy as possible for everyone to take part, we are producing further resources based on the suggestions made at our recent workshops, including sample social media posts and press release templates – do let us know if there is anything in particular that your organisation would like.
Who should we update on Starts at Home’s progress?
To ensure our campaigns updates are reaching the right people within your organisation, please register for the latest campaign emails on our website.
Thanks for all of your support so far. I hope you will join us to build an alliance of organisations and cross-party politicians to back Starts at Home and to champion supported housing.
